SPOTLIGHT ON SAN MIGUEL | HARMEET KAUR SIDHU.

Name: Harmeet Kaur Sidhu

Age: 36

Starsign: Cancer

Hometown: Hounslow, London

What brought you to San Miguel de Allende, and how long have you been here? 'Escaping a winter in London' is the short answer. A fuller answer would be that a most beautiful trip to Acapulco to cheer in 2004 sparked the idea for spending more time in Mexico. Back in London, I worked really hard for a year to get myself in a position where I could spend six months in Mexico. A Mexican friend I worked with suggested San Miguel de Allende and I've been here (with a stint in Guanajuato) for a little over 9 years now. Though, what I really believe brought me to San Miguel de Allende was the simple beauty of Fate.

Describe yourself in 3 words or less: Grateful Mother Strong (maybe even in that order!)

What gets you out of bed each day? The thought that I have to get my baby girl’s tush into a clean (cloth) nappy!

What makes San Miguel de Allende so special? The love that's in the air. The people, the streets, the light, the daily life that feels like I'm on holiday everyday, in spite of the endless laundry and dishes and a routine that comes along with being a mum of three. I have met the best people I know in this town. I give thanks for my life here everyday.

Favorite place to caffeinate? In the morning, it would be a take-away from La Ventana to then sit in the Jardin and watch the place come alive.

Best place to watch the sun go down: A tricky one. There are SO many spots depending... There's a particular street corner I like up in Los Balcomes with spectacular views across the city, El Gato Negro for an old haunt in the centre of town, the canchas (football fields) a short walk from my house with wide open views, and also to just step outside my house to watch the colors of everything around change. There are too many to list. You can't go wrong on picking a sunset spot.

What about yoga? We're on a break! Hoping to get back into it next month.

Favorite weekend getaway outside SMA? Troncones. A 6-hour drive down, but completely worth it, even for just the weekend.

What's on your stereo at the moment? Elvis - Suspicious Minds

Who is inspiring you right now? A group of women, both old friends and new acquaintances that I recently dined with. Nelson Mandela - may he inspire me every day. And a wonderful, thoughtful, generous, kind man who I met here in SMA (he celebrated his 64th birthday yesterday!).

Words you live by…  Have Faith in Big Dreams coming True.
