SPOTLIGHT ON LINNEA VILLEGAS | SANTA BARBARA.
Name: Linnea Villegas
Age: 28
Hometown: Arcata, California
What brought you to Santa Barbara? Westmont College
And what keeps you here? The mountains and ocean, the farmer's market, the active and wellness lifestyle, the stylish and artsy buzz about town, and of course my fabulous tribe of friends and my dear fiancé.
We only have 24 hours in SB, where would you take us? We would kick-start our day with an early morning hike up San Ysidro trail. Before heading to the farmer's market, we hit the Juice Ranch for a nourishing sip on something green. We then fill up on poached eggs and homemade toasties n' jam at D'Angelo's, followed by a midday stopover at the SB Mission, Rose Gardens, and Courthouse. After a stroll down State Street, we bike to Hammond's Beach where we laze around all afternoon with friends, books, and the sea. In the eve, we head downtown for sushi at Arigato, and then take things back to the sand for a late night bonfire and brew.
Saturday morning ritual? A morning hike or yoga session followed by a trip to the farmer's market and brunch. And then I typically get deep in my house cleaning/organizing zone.
Favorite hike: Sorry (ahem) I struggle to choose just one. San Ysidro, Romero, Tangerine Falls and Hot Springs are all list toppers.
Pilates or yoga? My body, mind and spirit (seriously) require both.
Coffee or tea? And where's best? I consider myself more of a smoothie and juice kinda gal, although I do like my teatime. French Press is my downtown go-to, but for an exotic and vast selection you can't beat Vices & Spices.
We feel like dancing, where can we go? Wildcat aka "the shitty kitty". I may or may not have gone there three nights in a row while in college.
Favorite weekend getaway from Santa Barbara: Topanga Canyon or Ojai, but if the extra few hours on the road aren't an issue, definitely Big Sur.
What are you listening to right now? The Lumineers, Bonobo, Notorious B.I.G., Sigur Ros, Caetano Veloso, Gotan Project, Susana Baca, the Fugees...
Who is inspiring you? The instructors and fellow body workers I had the pleasure of working with while at a recent massage workshop at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur.
